Beirut Night Sounds

'Beirut
Night Sounds' is the title of a night at zakk. ShiftZ featuring Hiba el
Mansoury, The New Government and Mayaline Hage (LUMI) give an
impression of the sub-cultural music scene in Beirut.

ShiftZ feat. Hiba el Mansoury present a mixture of electro-, techno-
und ethno-ingredients, inspired by the classic arabian chanson.

The New Government combine Indierock and Post Punk and are not afraid
of excursions into the Seventies. Mayaline Hage, singer with the band
LUMI, will perform her own song on this night, and as a dj will offer a
view into the Beirut nightlife.



When it´s night in Beirut, the party starts. The Beirut youth, be they
Muslim or Christian, goes out dancing. The most famous club in the
north of the city reminds one of an underground rocket station: The BO
18. Here young Beirut musicians appear on stage who put an emphasis on
not being political. Yet their sounds are formed by their hometown, by
the chaos of their metropolis. Beirut is punk, they say. The Basement,
another club in the city, attracts clubbers with the slogan „It´s safer
underground.“ To say that the atmosphere there is `dynamite´ would be
an unwilling pun though.
